NO NEIGHBOR HUNGRY – SHORELINE COMMUNITY SERVICES LAUNCHES EMERGENCY FOOD DRIVE TO SUPPORT UNSHELTERED NEIGHBORS IN THE CENTRAL BEACH AREA DURING GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN
San Diego, CA — 10/29/2025 — With millions of Americans expected to lose access to food assistance due to the ongoing government shutdown, Shoreline Community Services is stepping in to fill the gap for San Diego’s most vulnerable residents. The organization has launched an Emergency Food Drive to collect individually packaged, in-date food items and snacks to distribute through The Compass Station, Shoreline’s drop-in resource center for unhoused individuals. Shoreline is currently accepting donations of individually wrapped and shelf-stable snack packs, oatmeal, ramen noodles, pretzels, cereal bars, apple sauce, fruit cups, and more.
While Shoreline’s core mission focuses on connecting unhoused neighbors to resources, housing, and long-term pathways toward self-sufficiency, the organization recognizes that the current crisis demands an immediate, hands-on response.
“Typically, Shoreline works to align individuals with the community resources that help them take the next step off the street,” said Angie Veliz, Assistant Director of Shoreline Community Services. “But this moment calls for all of us to do more. The shutdown has created an emergency situation, and we’re stepping outside of our usual scope of services because basic needs simply aren’t being met.”
Donations can be dropped off Monday–Friday, 10 AM to 4 PM, at:
The Compass Station
1004 Chalcedony St.
San Diego, CA 92109
Items can also be donated through Shoreline’s Amazon Wishlist at https://a.co/4730MPu
