Many people are interested in volunteering in hopes to help their community, but it can be difficult to figure out where to start. At Shoreline Community Services, our mission is to Harness The Power of Community Relationships to impact our neighborhood’s most urgent social challenges. Whether you’re interested in general assistance for our unhoused neighbors or if you have a specialty you’re looking to help with, we have flexible options for all. Our organization has a deep appreciation for our volunteers, they are able to help create change within the community first-hand, and you can join in creating this change. Below a few of the many ways you can volunteer at Shoreline Community Services.
At our on-site location, The Compass Station, you can volunteer to be a Guide. A Guide is someone who helps our guests settle in at The Compass Station. This includes tasks from signing them in, to making a warm cup of coffee, to handling the queue for different resource providers. The purpose of these volunteers are numerous, and the most important task is to ensure our Guests are welcomed and treated with care. If you’re interested in helping with everyday tasks this opportunity could be exactly what you’re looking for! The only requirement is “radical hospitality”!
Our next volunteer opportunity is on the Volunteer Community Outreach Team. This opportunity allows volunteers to meet unsheltered individuals where they are. This allows us to then help individuals who are not yet connected to services or are not familiar with The Compass Station. The goal is to build trust and connect individuals with resources despite their location. We believe that everyone, regardless of location or ability to come onsite, deserve a connection to resources and services. If you’re a more extroverted person and enjoy making connections with new people, this could be perfect for you!
Another way of volunteering is sharing your expertise. This can include legal assistance, nursing, tax assistance, event planning, the list goes on. Shoreline Community Services is always looking for volunteers to share their passions and work. For example, a volunteer nurse would come in and offer care to our Guests, listen to any concerns they have about their health, and assist them with their overall well-being. This is only one of the many passions and work that a volunteer could offer. We make the effort to offer different resources for our Guests, and you can be part of our purpose. This is a perfect opportunity to connect with your community and help those in need. If you’re passionate about your work and want to share with your community this opportunity could be ideal for you!
Become a volunteer today and help us create lasting change in the lives of our unhoused neighbors.
